ABOUT THE POSITION: We are looking for a dynamic, progressive teacher to teach fifth grade. Our Lower School fifth grade continues our vigorous, scaffolded curriculum where students continue to expand their skills and find joy in reading, writing, and mathematics in a caring environment. Science and social studies are incorporated into project based learning with an emphasis on research skills, place, and sustainability. Integrating technology creatively into classroom learning and discovery is an integral part of the fifth grade classroom. In addition to working with students on content and skill areas, our teachers support our school's mission and core values by helping their students to become responsible, compassionate, inclusive, globally-minded, respectful citizens. Candidates should be flexible, patient, and nurturing with children and able to work in a collaborative environment with an educational assistant and Lower School colleagues. Candidates should have a professional learning mindset and actively engage in and seek out professional development opportunities. The 5th Grade is a Capstone year for our learners and the teacher who fills this role will lead and facilitate a year-long Capstone journey in accordance with our K-12 Capstone experience goals with support from our K-8 Capstone Coordinator. Minimum requirements: BA or BS degree and elementary teaching credential Three years of full-time elementary classroom teaching experience in an accredited school Accomplished, positive classroom management and communication skills to provide a safe, caring, and optimal learning environment Sound developmental understanding of fifth grade aged children Experience in planning, designing and implementing curriculum while being cognizant of and including differentiated instructional practices Keeps relevant with research-supported instruction, assessment strategies and technology Ability to work productively and collaboratively with Lower School colleagues Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional learning Acts with integrity, ethical conduct, and confidentiality Required to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) to support fifth-grade experiential learning Please submit your application with your letter of interest, resume and three letters of recommendation.
